Singing Hands

Signing fun for little ones

Isabel signs 'clap'

Your choice of songs was great and they were mostly new to me. All the signs were explained really well and were really relevant to a young baby. I have recommended the course to friends already!

Baby Signing Courses

School and Nursery sessionsSchool & nursery sessions

We run singing sessions in a whole range of settings: mainstream nurseries; mainstream schools; mainstream schools with units; special schools and hospices. We attend a number of settings on a regular basis and have seen how the children enjoy participating in our sessions and how much their signing confidence grown each time we return. Hopefully staff and other support workers learn some signs to use after we have gone too! There is lots of useful literature available to support the use of signs in your setting. Our songbooks and CDs will be available very shortly and the MVDP produces lots of published materials, software, booklets and videos to reinforce the signs that we introduce during our session.

We are invited into settings to sing for a number of reasons. In some cases, it is because of a particular topic they are studying (e.g. ‘Communication Week’). Sometimes it’s because a parent has attended our classes and wants their child to continue signing in their childcare setting. In other cases, it may be because the school or nursery has one or more children with special educational needs (SEN) who use signs and/or symbols. Schools & nurseries can help encourage communication between children with SEN and their peers by fostering an inclusive approach to language – signing with all the children will help you achieve this. Over and again we have seen how much the children without special needs have loved learning how to sign as well – and what better way to break down communication barriers can there be?

The London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames (LBRUT) has a deserved reputation for inclusion, so we are always delighted to be invited into schools and nurseries across the borough to teach nursery workers, schoolteachers, learning support assistants and other key workers how to include signing into their everyday activities with the children.

If you are interested in ‘Singing Hands’ coming to your school or nursery to do a singing session, please contact us and let us know your requirements.
