Singing Hands

Signing fun for little ones

Tracy shows the class the sign for 'rabbit'

Even better than anticipated! My daughter was SO interested in what was going on – we will be coming back next term. Your choice of vocabulary was excellent and covered all the things I might need – nappy time, bath time, play time, animals and so much more.

Our news

Singing Hands signed nursery rhymes and CDs are nearly ready! – Sep, 2006

For some time now, we have been working closely with the MVDP to produce two signed songbooks with accompanying CDs. We are delighted to report that we are in the latter stages of production and anticipate that they will be available for sale soon.

Each songbook features a collection of 30 tried and tested songs that we have used in our baby signing classes, toddler groups and nursery and school sessions over the years. We hope these packs will help you learn a whole range of signs and new songs to make music time one of the favourite activities of the day.

We have aimed to introduce a wide range of useful signs to help communicate with a baby or young child. As a parent, you may perhaps be out of practice with singing nursery rhymes and have only a rusty recollection of Baa Baa Black Sheep from your own childhood. The good news is that these volumes include many of those traditional rhymes alongside lots of new songs for you to enjoy singing with your child. If you are a teacher, Early Years’ practitioner, SENCO or music therapist you may be looking to expand the repertoire in your setting – we hope these resources will inspire you to bring renewed vibrancy to your music sessions with young children.

Throughout the books we feature hundreds of signs from the Makaton Core Vocabulary such as more, milk, biscuit and teddy. We have then included lots of other relevant vocabulary by using signs from the Resource Vocabulary such as swing, sandcastles, puzzle, nappy and lots of animal and transport signs too.

Once you are equipped with the signs from these books, you will find that they are transferable to other activities during the day as most children’s books, toys and games will use the same range of vocabulary.

We have also produced a CD of the songs to accompany each volume. The vocal arrangements have been designed to be clear so that you can hear all the vocabulary and are sung at the right pace for signing. There’s lots of lovely musical accompaniments to the songs too which we also hope you’ll enjoy.

We are very excited about these products and look forward to posting more information about when they will be available very soon. It is anticipated that the packs will be available to purchase directly from this site.
