Our news
Article by Dominic Lawson in the Review, Mail on Sunday – Jul, 2007
Every Tuesday we have the great pleasure to work at Great Ormond Street Hospital School running singing and signing sessions with the children, their families and staff. Each afternoon, we run an hour-long slot in the school itself for those children who are able to come down to the school. For any children who are unable to leave their room or ward, we grab our bags and visit them on the wards – often causing some hilarity amongst the nurses and doctors as we sing the Mmm mmm frog song wherever we can!
On a serious note, the school runs lots of different activities and children carry on with their schoolwork from their home school to try and minimise the impact of a hospital stay on their education . In addition to all the regular school work though, the school lays on an exciting range of activities including regular cookery sessions run by celebrity chefs. Recently, we were working in the school when Dominic Lawson paid a visit. His sister, TV celeb chef Nigella Lawson, had been in to the school previously to bake delicious cookies with the kids and had told him all about the school.
Anyway, the upshot of his visit was the following article in the Mail on Sunday all about the school, the staff and the amazing work they do. Dominic, who has a daughter with Down Syndrome, watched our session and chose to describe us as a ‘two-woman life-force’ which is pretty splendid!
