Down’s Syndrome Association, AGM, Saturday 14th October 2006 – Nov, 2006
This year we were delighted to be invited to do a singing session at the DSA’s AGM held at the Langdon Down Centre in Teddington. The event was attended by well over a hundred families and professionals. There were presentations by Dr Gerry Coughlan (Chair of the DSA), Elizabeth Andrews (Deputy Director of Early Support) and Dr George Capone (Director of the Kennedy and Kriger Institute Down’s Syndrome Clinic).
We rounded off the event accompanied by 16 children from Twenty One & Co (a social and support group for children with Down’s Syndrome and their families). The children did a fantastic job singing and signing along with us. We also had lots of audience participation which was great to see! Our session finished with our little friend Blythe (who is 7 and has Down’s Syndrome) doing a solo performance singing and signing ‘What a Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong. She was amazing and absolutely inspiring. Needless to say there was not a dry eye in the house after that!
We are now working hard on our Christmas repertoire in preparation for the DSA Christmas concerts on the 6-7th December – see our list of ‘Ad-hoc’ events for more details.
