Singing Hands

Signing fun for little ones

We have been greatly impressed by the level of concentration achieved by the children not only during the programme but in activities we follow through with. Playwam are happy to recommend ‘Singing Hands’. Enjoy!

We are delighted to announce that our Nursery Rhymes DVD It’s Signing Time will be available from our online shop very soon.

The DVD features a collection of songs taken from our classes and our CD/Books. You’ll see us down at the farm singing Baa Baa Black Sheep and Old MacDonald and showing you lots of animal and play signs. We also visit the playground and park with friends and there are sessions with babies and toddlers. There will be a great mix of simple songs with only a few signs to songs with more signs and concepts from the Makaton vocabulary.

Some of our favourites are included such as the Mmm Mmm Frog and I Dig my Garden along with a lovely Rainbow song and fun songs such Three Little Monkeys and Mummy More.

In the DVD, we aim to adopt the same principle as our classes where, by using signs, symbols and props, we appeal to children’s different learning styles: visual (seeing), auditory (hearing), kinaesthetic (moving) or tactile (touching). We offer a multi-modal (i.e. multi-sensory) approach so when we introduce a song such as Down in the Jungle with the toddlers you hear us say the word JUNGLE, sign JUNGLE and model the signs for animals such as ELEPHANT, TIGER and HIPPO. We show a symbol of JUNGLE (with the written word underneath) and a pass round props and toys for the children to touch.

Filming started back in October and we hope that the DVD will be available for sale in the next couple of months. Keep an eye on the website for updates – in the meantime, please see our trailer or listen to the podcast for a sneak peek of a handful of the songs!
