Singing Hands DVD Launch Party and 5TH Birthday – Sep, 2008

Singing Hands DVD

We got off to an amazing start this Autumn Term with a party to celebrate our “5th Birthday” and the launch of our new DVD: It’s Signing Time. We were joined by LOADS of families from our classes including the children who appeared alongside us in the DVD. A charity raffle raised money for Me Too, a local playgroup for families of children with additional needs, of which the both of us are Trustees.

In her welcome speech, Tracy explained

“My son Miles has Down Syndrome. When he was born, I soon realised that I was going to need to learn how to sign to help him communicate. Of course, as a parent of any young baby knows, singing nursery rhymes is such a natural thing to do. But there was only one Makaton nursery rhyme video out there for us to watch together whereas other children had so much choice. With tears in my eyes, I promised my baby that one day I’d make him another video (I didn’t know about DVDs back then!). It’s taken a long time to achieve this – but I have certainly kept my promise to him”

Children feeding the Chickens

During the morning, the children and their families enjoyed a lively sing-along of some of their favourite songs, a first showing of the new DVD, bubble play, balloon modelling, face-painting and an animal handling farm which included hedgehogs, mice, guinea pigs, chickens, parrots, rabbits and an 8-foot Burmese python!

Grace from Eastenders

We were joined by Grace who plays baby Janet in Eastenders (she is a regular at Singing Hands classes)
