World Down Syndrome Day Event, Wednesday 21st March 2007 – Feb, 2007
Down Syndrome International (DSI) has officially earmarked the 21st March as World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). This date was chosen to signify the uniqueness of Down syndrome in the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome and is used synonymously with Down syndrome.
This year the theme for the 21st March 2007 is “Celebrating Diversity”, to continue creating awareness about Down syndrome and promote acceptance of diversity. Here in the UK, the DSA are hosting a one-day conference at their Head Office with guest speakers from Nigeria, Iraq and the Republic of Ireland. Once again we have been invited to perform on stage with our young friends from TwentyOne & Co (a social communication and support group for children with Down Syndrome and their families) and we’ll round off the day with a spot of audience participation!
